Letter: Editorial showed plight of workers
One particular editorial grabbed my eye that was headlined, "Gratitude is not enough - Probe shows government may have tried to shortchange nuclear weapons workers."
Letter: More transparency would benefit the public
It wasn't always this way in Nevada. During those days there was more cronyism and behind-the-scenes shenanigans occurring than the concerns the Las Vegas Sun expressed in its Dec. 19 editorial, "Open the bidding."
Giving that caught on
Some customers at the Pioneer bar in Goodsprings are once again trying to prove that they're not a bunch of scoundrels and curmudgeons.
Ron Kantowski sees a surprisingly good movie - a year after he sneaks onto the set
It was just about a year ago when I sneaked into Mandalay Bay for the filming of the climactic fight scenes for "Rocky Balboa."
Editorial: Put needs before image
The task force, appointed by outgoing Gov. Kenny Guinn, found that current sources of revenue for highway work are woefully insufficient in comparison to the vital need.

LOOKING IN ON: THE SUBURBS
Move over, Las Vegas, and get ready to share the red carpet.
TAKE FIVE: AHMAD RASHAD
The familiar voice on the speaker phone wanted to talk about his beloved Oregon Ducks, who will line up against Brigham Young in tonight's Las Vegas Bowl at Sam Boyd Stadium, and "Tuesday Night With Ahmad," the NBA TV show he will host from Las Vegas during NBA All-Star week.
Former nightclub operator says Rizzolo acing him out of sale
Just weeks before his sentencing on tax evasion charges, Crazy Horse Too landlord Rick Rizzolo has been hit with a federal lawsuit charging that his leasing of the topless club to restaurateur Mike Signorelli is a ruse designed to allow Rizzolo to continue calling the shots.
Local officials getting priorities sorted out
PROBLEM: Shortage of foster families, resulting in overcrowding at shelter.
Where I Stand
The day opened with the highly controversial topic of marriage. The question posed was this: Should there be a constitutional amendment defining marriage?
Editorial: Creating a better drug package
On Tuesday the FDA proposed new rules that call for clearly labeling the containers of painkillers that contain acetaminophen, which can cause liver damage or failure if a consumer takes too many. Products containing aspirin and those containing nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, keptoprofen and naproxen would have to carry warnings about possible gastrointestinal bleeding if used improperly.
LV Bowl, from Anderson to zebra
is for Anderson as in Mike, the former Marine who was named MVP of Utah's 17-16 victory over Fresno State in Las Vegas Bowl VIII on his way to the NFL.
Editorial: Standing strong against Yucca
The delegation, including incoming Republican Rep. Dean Heller, met Tuesday at the George Federal Building in downtown Las Vegas. The members discussed strategy for turning Congress against the project, which would see the nation's high-level nuclear waste dangerously transported across the country for unsafe burial at Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
DA opens the door to defense partway
Before this summer, local prosecutors made some of their most sensitive decisions - those involving whether to pursue the death penalty for murder defendants - in secret and without any input from defense lawyers.
Letter: Gaming regulator's invaluable legacy
He brought to his gaming control duties the highest ethical standard, an inquiring and open mind, a practical approach to law, a great concern for the gaming industry and the welfare of its employees, an open-door policy, a sense of fairness, a spirit of independence and the courage to remain on a path he determined to be right.
John Katsilometes talks to an exotic car sales rep who has turned Lamborghini Las Vegas into the Garden of Eden
"Then it's like driving a rocket ship," Hatle said Tuesday during an interview at Lamborghini Las Vegas. Hatle speaks wistfully of the Bugatti Veyron, a vehicle both exotic and rare - fewer than 10 exist in the U.S., and the last for sale on the open market was dealt last month by the 24-year-old Hatle. The ticket price was $1.8 million, the highest sale at Lamborghini Las Vegas since the dealership opened at 7770 Dean Martin Drive in September 2005.
UMC says it's owed $2.5 million
University Medical Center officials say NevadaCare insurance company owes the public hospital between $2.5 million and $2.8 million - their largest unpaid bill ever for an insurer - for services provided to Medicaid patients in 2004 and 2005.
