Letter: Nova Town idea is not what we need

Regarding the Las Vegas Sun's Dec. 9 story, "Art mingles with utopia in concept for future town":

I am unable to believe that Melissa Henry wants to build what she thinks is an environmental "utopia" in Goodsprings. And how can Robert F. Kennedy Jr., an environmental lawyer, choose the fundraiser for this insane project to rail on Bush's environmental policies?

I consider myself a liberal, and I strongly support anything that can help the environment, so when non-Nevadans like RFK Jr. decide to lend their name to such hypocrisy, I am outraged.

Ms. Henry wants to have fountains and lush gardens in some sort of utopia?! Her idea of electric cars is fine. Her belief that great thinkers of the world will come here to discuss world issues is noble, but does she have to do it at the expense of our already overtaxed fragile desert ecosystem?

I've lived in Southern Nevada for seven years, the same number of years that Ms. Henry says she's lived here. Has she noticed nothing about our water shortage? Has she never been out to Hoover Dam and seen the water level so low it's enough to make you cry?

I do little things to help this valley, like having a yard that is totally desert-landscaped and conserving water, gasoline and other consumables. I always reduce, reuse, recycle.

It is a shame that Ms. Henry, with all her connections to high-profile environmentalists and imagination, can only dream up an environmental disaster like Nova Town.
