John Katsilometes takes a spin through Revolution, the new Beatles-themed club at the Mirage

The idea is to evoke the sensation of being under the influence of hallucinogens, without actually having to take hallucinogens. It sounds daunting, but the creative team at the Revolution Lounge at the Mirage seems to have pulled it off. The club, set to open Dec. 22, is an offshoot of the Cirque du Soleil-Apple Corps show "Love" and marks Cirque's first nightclub in Las Vegas. A psychedelic vibe permeated the still-under-construction club Monday morning during a guided tour led by Bill Hillman, director of operations and business development of renowned Toronto nightclub company Ink. The design masterminds are Creative Director Jean-Francois Bouchard of Cirque and architect Stephanie Cardinal of Humas Design.
At the club's entrance are 10-foot-tall, bright red letters spelling the club's name (with the letters EVOL flipped backward to spell LOVE). Inside the relatively small venue (7,000 square feet with a capacity of 400), hundreds of glass tiles hang from the ceiling, throwing light across the club in a nod to "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds." Interactive tables equipped with small video cameras, which were being installed during our visit, allow clubgoers to have their own tabletop designs that can include anything from assembled drink glasses to items from a purse. The designs are mixed with psychedelic images and projected onto a screen in the middle of the club.
From 5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (the club is open until 5 a.m.) a live DJ will churn out Beatles mixes, then shift to assorted remixes of world music and British pop.
Under construction since June, the club's cost is about $11 million. More money went into its sound system than the one installed at Jet (also at the Mirage), which is three times larger.
Revolution's "Yellow Submarine"-themed lounge bar (complete with four portholes) will offer appropriately titled drinks, such as Beatle Juice, served with crystallized sugar swizzle sticks shaped like flowers. The front bar, called Abbey Road, is open all hours and sits atop a long crosswalk to remind patrons of the famous album cover.
At the end of our walk-through, even Hillman seemed a bit overwhelmed. "This is the smallest project I've ever done, in terms of square footage," he said, "but it is also the biggest."

Illusionist Steve Wyrick won't be opening his new theater complex this week after all. Most recently he said the 500-seat showroom at the Desert Passage mall at the Aladdin would open Saturday; now the date seems to be Dec. 23. At least, that's what the Desert Passage ticket brokers are reporting. Scheduled showtimes for that date are 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and tickets cost $70 and $90
Mayor Goodman, over ice: It's a busy event week for Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman. The Christmas party for the networking organization Link is Thursday at Hogs & Heifers in downtown Las Vegas. Spreading holiday cheer will be Goodman, who is expected to arrive between 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to lead the "first toast." Then Goodman bolts to the Hard Rock Hotel's Hard Rockafella Center ice skating rink. He is to be on hand at around 7 p.m. to host the opening ceremonies
Mona Van Joseph - known to the world of mysticism as Mystic Mona - is back on the air. Her new "Psychic View Radio Program" can be found on KDWN 720-AM from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays
For the holidays: Silk Beatles-themed neckties (in designs of "Rubber Soul," "Help" "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" "1" and "Yellow Submarine") at the Love Theatre's Cirque Boutique cost $48
A reader who is also a crossing guard (and who didn't quite get the make of this vehicle) reports the vanity plate YRUTLKN. We deduce that it means, "Why are you talking?" which makes the fact that the driver was talking on a cell phone a bit confusing.
