FLASHPOINT for Dec 09, 2006
Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 | 7:09 a.m.
These words from a Friday Sun story continue to reverber- ate: "The Sun requested the minutes of those meetings and a list of the committee's members. The Sun also asked to view the scoring of the bids and (UMC boss Lacy) Thomas' recommendation to the committee. The hospital has refused to grant any of those requests." What is so stupefying about this is that Thomas is the head of a public hospital. The committee minutes are from meetings during which medical staffers rejected Thomas' selection of a consultant. What is more incredible is that Thomas' superiors are allowing UMC to block legitimate public record requests - including Thomas' recommendation and the scoring of bids. How can that not be public information?
