Letter: Sun’s coverage offers needed balance
Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 | 7:11 a.m.
Thanks for continuing to provide balanced coverage of the Gov.-elect Jim Gibbons-Chrissy Mazzeo alleged assault case. According to Jeff German's article on Dec. 6, Ms. Mazzeo "asked police to reopen the case because, she said, she wanted her reputation restored."
Without the Sun's reports, some people could be led to think that the lack of evidence affirming that Mr. Gibbons accosted Ms. Mazzeo proves that no "incident" occurred. Actually, there is no evidence supporting Mr. Gibbons' account, either (namely that he helped Ms. Mazzeo as she slipped outside of the parking garage).
Until authorities produce conclusive evidence, the public should keep its mind open and give both parties the benefit of the doubt.
