John Katsilometes reports that Steve Wynn is in for a two-tuxedo weekend as he heads East for Kennedy Center events

Steve and Elaine Wynn are traveling to the East Coast this weekend for some big events related to his recent selection to the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The Wynns will be attending a Saturday evening dinner at the State Department. The Kennedy Center Honors will be bestowed that evening on conductor Zubin Mehta; singer and songwriter Dolly Parton; singer, songwriter and producer Smokey Robinson; film producer and director Steven Spielberg; and composer and producer Andrew Lloyd Webber.

On Sunday the Wynns will be at the White House for dinner and cocktails with the president, the honorees and Kennedy Center trustees, followed by the Center's Honors Gala, to be recorded for later broadcast on CBS, and a supper dance.

"It's a two-tuxedo weekend," Steve Wynn told Sun columnist Jeff Simpson.

Wynn said he'll fly to New York on Monday for some business and to check on a prized possession - "Le Reve," the Picasso painting he damaged at a party in his Wynn Las Vegas villa. The painting's repair has been completed, and Wynn said he wants to check it out before returning to Las Vegas.

Ambitious illusionist Steve Wyrick has passed word to us (or, to me) that the date for the opening of his theater complex at the Desert Passage mall will be Dec. 16. It will be a "soft" opening, with Wyrick's own show opening the 500-seat theater complex (which reportedly cost $34 million to construct). Joining Wyrick in the rotation of headliners will be ventriloquist Ronn Lucas, vocalist Martin Nievera and the comedy show "Defending the Caveman." ...

Of eggnog and eyeliner: The Killers have released their first Christmas single, "A Great Big Sled," which debuts today exclusively on www.aolmusic.com. Proceeds go to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. The band also appears on the "Billboard Music Awards" at the MGM Grand on Monday and has an appearance scheduled for "The Tonight Show" on Dec. 18 ...

More sounds of music: The Beatles' "Love" CD has debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Album Charts. As one reviewer noted, the CD makes you want to see the show, and gosh, it's good to see Apple Corps, Mirage and Cirque du Soleil enjoy some success occasionally ...

Remember the 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee replica owned by Gipsy , 8 1/2 and Piranha Night Club bartender Chris Dauenhauer? We wrote about this car in October, and it finally sold this week for $27,499. Dauenhauer had originally asked $45,000 for the immaculate (but gas-quaffing) machine, but he's happy - he recently purchased a 1999 Crown Victoria Police Interceptor ...

More wheels and deals: The 1982 Mercedes-Benz custom convertible once owned by Wayne Newton did not sell at the Kruse International auction at South Point over the weekend. The car topped out with a bid of $50,000, below its minimum reserve to sell, and will probably be at the spring auction April 6-7 ...

A distinctive holiday celebration is set for this weekend as Patricia Martinelli-Price, executive director of the Polidor Foundation: Spirit of Nations (a Las Vegas-based charity benefiting children of the poor in Las Vegas) will host the first "Holiday of Nations Festival." The event opens at 5:30 p.m. today at 2751 Emerson Ave., and runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The inaugural celebration will pay homage to the Hanukkah Bush, which will be displayed along the festival's Walk of Nations Holiday Tree Display. Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is scheduled to read and present the Polidor Foundation with a proclamation during today's opening party; guests are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy for donation ...
