Letter: NAFTA, CAFTA put nation in jeopardy
Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006 | 7:45 a.m.
Many Americans have been complaining about free trade agreements (NAFTA and CAFTA), and our congressional delegation and Congress, generally, have attempted to tell us free trade is in our interest.
Well, the bill is coming due and it has affected us negatively economically and has resulted in a loss of good-paying manufacturing jobs replaced by low-paying service jobs. Now it is going to affect our national security and force us to pay for the CANAMEX highway to further reduce our security.
Mexico has three major seaports, with another planned. This will overload our highways and rail system, reducing security checkpoints. The excuse always is we must keep the flow of free trade going.
This will inevitably lead to open borders. If you haven't noticed, Congress and the Bush administration have promised immigration reform but have done little. They just can't be trusted to put American sovereignty first.
Call our congressional delegation and have them outline how NAFTA, CAFTA and CANAMEX are in our national security and financial (employment) interest.
Watch out for double talk.
