Letter: Curbing growth will fix water problem
Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006 | 7:28 a.m.
It is amazing to me that there has not been a serious objection by the current residents of Clark County to the Southern Nevada Water Authority's actions to bring more water to the area, no matter the cost.
Growth is a Ponzi scheme where requirements created by past growth have to be financed with future growth. Other than for the developers and the politicians, you would be hard pressed to find many residents who feel that our quality of life has improved with the uncontrolled growth.
Anyone who gives it a thought must realize that the costs for securing new sources of expensive water will be passed on to the current residents as well as the new. The longer we wait to start controlling growth, the more severe the final effects. When will we start electing representatives who represent our welfare and not that of the developers?
According to Pat Mulroy, general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority, growth will stop in 2013 without new water. Why wait until 2013?
