Letter: Don’t ignore lessons of history

Let's put the Hezbollah attack in perspective to what might have happened if the same attitude would have been used in our history.
On Dec. 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii, inflicting damage and loss of life to U.S. citizens. The U.S. declared war against Japan and attacked Japanese ships and islands that the Japanese had invaded.
Now let's take the modern perspective: The international community calls for a cease-fire and for the U.S. to withdraw to the Hawaiian Islands. The international community will establish an international force comprising Russian and Chinese troops to make sure that the Japanese do not attempt to attack the U.S. again. Disarmament will be discussed at a future date. Would we still be a free democracy under these types of conditions?
