Letter: Documentary raises tough questions
Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 | 7:21 a.m.
Your July 19 editorial on global warming, headlined, "We must heed the warning," set the stage for the launch of the full-length documentary, "Who Killed the Electric Car?"
After seeing the film, I returned home outraged and saddened, and yet optimistic.
This film documents the demise of the successful, efficient and cost-effective fleet of electric cars put into demonstration service in the late 1990s through 2004. It is a sad commentary on our automotive industry, oil industry and political leadership.
When one finishes experiencing the film, three questions come to mind: Does General Motors deserve to survive? Why have we squandered more than $240 billion in Iraq, and sacrificed nearly 2,600 of our troops? Does any member of Congress deserve to be re-elected?
We, as Americans, need to take control of our future, and not let the current batch of politicians and big-business executives dictate the terms of survival for ours and our children's generations.
It is not too late, but we have been complacent far too long. Remember, this is an election year.
