FLASHPOINT for Aug 02, 2006

Jerry Airola must die! Well, not literally. But as the Las Vegas businessman has tried to purchase the sheriff's office for months, with a huge TV ad campaign and his helicopters aloft with banners, the Establishment is striking back. Even Sheriff Bill Young, who said he would keep his mouth shut after other Metro types got into the race, is going all-out for Undersheriff Doug Gillespie with an auto-dialer to voters. Revelations that Airola has exaggerated his law enforcement credentials - he says he's a cop but he's really not - also have catalyzed a group called - I kid you not - Swift Chopper Pilots for Truth. And guess what? Airola, with all those ads and all those candidates, probably is the favorite to win the primary.
