FLASHPOINT for Apr 28, 2006

I find it quite humorous that a District Court judge is about to tell a jury what exactly it means to deprive the public of honest services, as the wire fraud statute mandates. The Southern Nevada public already has a pretty fair idea of what that standard is it doesn't exist. Another judge already has ruled that it's not depriving the public of honest services if you use your elected job to help your family. Legislators often kowtow to special interests who have given them cool dinners, cool tickets or even cooler campaign contributions. And some part-time officials have used their elected posts to solicit business or favors from those they regulate. Honest services? Please, where are they again?
