According to news reports, the chief executive of Exxon Mobil, Lee Raymond, was paid $400 million in 2005.
If someone in Las Vegas earning an annual salary of $60,000 drove 20,000 miles a year and averaged 20 mpg, then he or she would spend $3,000, or 5 percent of his or her salary, on gasoline when it's priced at $3 per gallon.
If Mr. Raymond of Exxon Mobil spent 5 percent of his salary and drove the same number of miles at the same mpg, he would spend $20,000 on each gallon of gasoline.
Hey, that gives me an idea ...
