FLASHPOINT for Apr 25, 2006

Even The Hotline - or at least its readers - realizes the silliness of Yucca Mountain Johnny, the kid-friendly cartoon figure the DOE is using to make children feel good about Yucca Mountain. In its "Last Call" section recently, The Hotline, a daily political newsletter from inside the Beltway, had this feedback: A reader writes: "In a fight, who would win? Yucca Mountain Johnny (ocrwm.doe.gov/youth/index.htm) or Rex, the Homeland Security Cat (ready.gov/kids/_ images/homepage/main.jpg)." But they are missing the point: The cat and Yucca Johnny would be working toward the same goal - keeping terrorists away from the country and from nuclear power plants where waste is stored. Right?
