FLASHPOINT for Apr 20, 2006

It is obvious that a job such as public administrator should be appointed. Or abolished. Never has the case been made more obviously than this year by looking at the field of candidates the job has attracted, including two former lawmakers who had little respect in Carson City and continue to troll for political jobs. First, ex-Assemblywoman Merle Berman announced for secretary of state, then backed out and said she was running for controller, which lasted a few weeks until she declared for public administrator. Enough said. And now, this week, comes ex-Assemblyman Lou Toomin, who is willing to put a hundred grand of his own money in to win this job. Again, enough said. So scary.
