Letter: Common sense approach to driving
Thursday, April 13, 2006 | 7:13 a.m.
This goes out to all drivers everywhere. The fast lane is in the far left lane. The slow lane is to the right. Passing is allowed in any lane in Las Vegas.
When driving, you should not go 10 miles over or under the posted speed limit. If you choose to go over the stated limit, you should be on the left side; if going under you should be on the right and just the right amount in the middle! These are, in case you didn't know, the traffic laws in this city.
But that's not what this letter is about - it's about common sense.
When you're on the freeway and you're not driving as fast as everyone else in your lane, then you're a traffic hazard; you should not be in the lane you're in whether it's the slow lane or the fast lane.
If you are speeding (that is going 10 miles or more over the speed limit), you should learn to maneuver through traffic better so no one needs to get out of your way. You should go around them. If you can't, then you should slow down until you can.
Going 55 mph in the left lane is why there's road rage - just like 75 mph in the right. Las Vegans should learn how to drive within the laws of this city.
