Letter: Invading Iran would be as disastrous as Iraq
Friday, April 7, 2006 | 7:13 a.m.
Well, it looks like the Bush administration, faced with plummeting poll ratings on virtually every issue and possible devastating losses in the midterm elections, is getting ready to bring out the old incessant drumbeats of "Remember 9/11," weapons of mass destruction and "you're a traitor if you don't agree with us" that they thought justified their last political enhancement campaign which, of course, has become the political blunder and military failure of the last 40 years (since Vietnam, in other words)!
The big questions are, will the "loyal opposition" in Congress roll over and give them a stamp of approval to bomb and invade Iran, and will the American public once again be fooled by all the 9/11-based propaganda into supporting another "pre-emptive" war?
The public and Democrats in Congress had better stop and think beyond the Karl Rove puff of patriotic and 9/11 smoke about this one, which will make the Iraq travesty look like a Sunday school picnic.
You see, Iran has, in contrast to Iraq, a fairly modern and well-equipped military and the ability to mount an insurgency that will make Iraq almost forgettable.
Not only that, but with a war on Iran will also come a loss of its oil exports to fill American SUVs that will bring the wrath of the same public that was fooled by Iraq propaganda (for a while).
Oh, by the way, if war on Iran takes place, it is possible nukes will be used and set the stage for World War III and the end of humanity. Stop and think, people!
