Letter: Walkout should not go unpunished
Sunday, April 2, 2006 | 7:22 a.m.
Here is an opportunity for our new superintendent of schools to demonstrate his leadership and ability to set an example for what is considered acceptable behavior in our school district.
Although I appreciate everyone's right to free speech, there is a time and place for it, and the children who walked out to protest immigration legislation should be suspended and their parents charged for the expense of the buses that were ordered to retrieve them.
There is absolutely no reason for the taxpayers to have to pay for this lack of self-control and obvious, flagrant disregard for rules and regulations.
Perhaps now is the time to teach the children and perhaps their parents that there are right and wrong ways to express their beliefs and that there are consequences for such behavior.
