Blood drives scheduled
These locations will host blood drives next week for United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.:
Monday: 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Burke/Horizon High School, 4560 W. Harmon Ave.; 3-8 p.m., Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 6670 W. Cheyenne Ave.; 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Wal-Mart Supercenter.
Tuesday: 4-8 p.m., McMullan's Irish Pub, 4650 Tropicana Ave.
Thursday: 3:30-8:30, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 916 Fifth St.; noon-4 p.m., Nevada State College, 1125 Dawson Ave., Henderson; noon-4 p.m., Greek Isle Hotel; 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Health Plan Services, 1921 Las Vegas Blvd., South.
Oct. 7: 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Tate Snyder Kimsey Architects, 709 Valle Verde Court; 1-4 p.m., Coca-Cola, 320 N. Mojave Road.
Oct. 8: 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Sun City Anthem, 2450 Hampton Road, Henderson; 8 a.m.-1 p.m., LDS S. State Center, 6601 W. Twain Ave.; 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Wal-Mart, 4505 W. Charleston Blvd.
Church hosting friendship festival
The Water of Life Lutheran Church will host Festival of Friendship, a neighborhood block party from noon-4 p.m. Oct. 9 at the church, 5430 S. Grand Canyon Drive (near Tropicana Avenue and Fort Apache).
The event is free and open to the public. Activities will include face painting, arts and crafts and an inflatable bounce house. Free food and drink will include pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn and snow cones. Food has been donated by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans and U.S. Foods and drinks have been donated by Pepsi-Cola.
Water of Life Lutheran Church is a division of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod-WELS.

Children can swap books with others
The Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a children's swap from 10 a.m.-noon Oct. 22 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, 599 Greenway Road.
The event offers parents and children the opportunity to trade in storybooks they have already read for different ones. Parents may drop off the books prior to the event, from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. on Oct. 20 and Oct. 21. For each book donated, the participant may select a different book.
