Man dies from gunshot wound

A man was found dead from an apparent gunshot wound in the head Wednesday morning at Terrible's hotel at Paradise and Flamingo roads, Metro Police said.

The victim, who was found around 6:30 a.m. by security officers at the hotel, has not been identified yet by the Clark County coroner's office.

Police want to find and question Walter Raymond Freitas, 19, because he is the last person known to have seen the victim alive, Metro said.

33 receive shots at special clinic

The Clark County Health District provided hepatitis A vaccinations and immune globulin shots to 33 people on Wednesday at its special hepatitis A clinic.

In the past five days, 390 people have received the preventive treatment, said Dave Tonelli, a spokesman for the Health District.

Wednesday was the last day people who believe they might have been exposed to the disease at a Las Vegas convention could receive preventive treatment.

Concerned individuals may still receive the hepatitis A vaccination, but it will only be effective against future exposures. Health officials said Wednesday was the last day the shots would be effective against the recent exposure to hepatitis A.

Tourists may add to grant money

Las Vegas' high number of tourists may be considered as the Justice Department doles out federal grant money for police programs, based on a conversation Rep. Jon Porter, R-Nev., had on the House floor Wednesday.

The House passed the Justice Department spending bill Wednesday, but Porter and House Judiciary Chairman James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., had a formal conversation during the floor debate that tourism rates should be factored into grant calculations.

Sensenbrenner agreed and offered to work with Porter as the bill would go to conference. The bill passed the House but will need to go through the Senate and another round of negotiations before becoming final.

Arrest made in child porn case

Metro Police have arrested a 49-year-old man wanted in Colorado for possession of child pornography.

Jeffrey W. Schrader was discovered living in a house in the 3500 block of North Villa Knolls Drive near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road, police said.

Earlier this year Schrader was going through a divorce and his estranged wife filed a restraining order against him. When Schrader moved out, his wife looked through some property he left behind and found several computer discs containing dozens of pornographic images of girls appearing to be under 10 years old, Lt. Jim Moses said.

Deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff's Department searched Schrader's computer and found more images, police said.
