Phillip Hays

Phillip Hays, 57, of Las Vegas died Sunday. He was born March 26, 1948, in Portland, Ore. A resident for seven years, he was a registered nurse, and a Vietnam Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia; one son, Andrew Hays of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two sisters, Robin Hays of Portland, Ore., and Mary Huskey of Fairbanks, Alaska.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Cheyenne.

The family suggests donations to the Trauma Intervention Program.

Melvin Roderick Holmes Jr.

Melvin Roderick Holmes Jr., 17, of Las Vegas died Sept. 18 in North Las Vegas. He was born May 13, 1988, in California. A resident for 11 years, he was a student.

He is survived by his parents, Melvin and Shirley Holmes, and one brother, Maurice Holmes, all of Las Vegas; and his grandmother, Pearl Holmes of California.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11 a.m. service Saturday in Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane. Burial will follow in Davis Memorial Park.

P.J. Howe

P.J. Howe, 57, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 3, 1948, in Pasadena, Calif. A resident for 35 years, he was a retired police officer and Vietnam War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy L.; two daughters, Tricia Bossy and Rachel Howe, and one son, Thomas Howe, all of Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to an 11 a.m. service Saturday at Foothills Baptist Church, 6405 W. Cheyenne Ave. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

Marian K. Milligan

Marian K. Milligan, 90, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born April 6, 1915, in Milwaukee. A resident for 66 years, she was a retired motel manager and a member of the Eagles and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary.

She is survived by one son, Jack R. Milligan, and one daughter, Patricia Emens, both of Las Vegas; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Main.

Clifford W. Moore

Clifford W. Moore, 80, of Henderson died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Fort Duschane, Utah. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired Air Force tech sergeant and World War II and Korean War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Hermine A.; two daughters, Marion C. Farvid of Glendale, Ariz., and Velma A. Taylor of Henderson; three sisters, Virginia Stiefel and Marilyn Morris, both of Salt Lake City, and Bettymay Kinder of American Fork, Utah; one brother, Edward Moore of St. George, Utah; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to a 10:30 a.m. service Monday in the LDS chapel, 19 E. Ocean St., Henderson. Burial will follow in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

James E. Morris Sr.

James E. Morris Sr., 77, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 6, 1928, in New York City. A resident for 17 years, he was a retired public utilities agent and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine; one son, James E. Morris Jr. of North Hills, Calif.; and one daughter, Eileen Boyce of Salisbury, N.C.

Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., handled arrangements.

Dannete C. Peguese

Dannete C. Peguese, 48, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born June 17, 1957, in Laurel, Miss. A longtime resident, she was disabled.

She is survived by her mother, Carleen Peguese, and two brothers, William Peguese Jr. and Vincent J. Peguese, all of North Las Vegas; and three sisters, Janette Peguese-Smith of North Las Vegas and Sharon Peguese and Kamala Peguese, both of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled noon-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Henry Shanks Jr.

Henry Shanks Jr., 85, of Las Vegas died Aug. 23 in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Louisiana. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired kitchen worker.

He is survived by three daughters, Mandesia Shanks, Tracy McClodden and Laneich Davis; one son, Curtis Jackson; and one sister, Edna Green.

Services are scheduled 11 a.m. Friday in Nevada Funeral Service, 2983 Fremont St. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Florence Smith

Florence Smith, 87, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born May 25, 1918, in Arkansas. A resident for 49 years, she was a retired housekeeper.

She is survived by three sons, Louis Riles and Samuel Smith, both of Las Vegas, and Earl J. Brown of St. Louis; and two daughters, Sondra Foster and Venita Lee, both of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Madison Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park.

Sharon Elizabeth Unmacht

Sharon Elizabeth Unmacht, 66, of Elk Grove, Calif., died Sunday. A former 17 year resident of Las Vegas, she was born Nov. 8, 1938.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas; one daughter, Joan Slabaugh; one son, Kevin Unmacht; one sister, Sandra Kennedy; one brother, James Thorvilson; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Sacramento and at the Lakes Lutheran Church, 8200 W. Sahara Ave. at 6 p.m. Monday.

Tavares L. Washington

Tavares L. Washington, 24, of Las Vegas died Sept. 20 in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 21, 1981, in Nevada. He was a carpenter.

He is survived by one son, Tay Shawn L. Washington; his father and mother, George and Emeldia Washington of North Las Vegas; and two sisters, Georgetta Washington of North Las Vegas and Felicia Smith of Arizona.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. Friday in Thomas and Jones Funeral Home, 310 Foremaster Lane. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St. Burial will follow in Davis Memorial Park.
