I-15 crash causes multiple injuries

Friday, Sept. 23, 2005 | 10:12 a.m.

A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper, a woman driving a black car and a man hauling cars on a semi-truck trailer were all injured Thursday afternoon north of Apex on Interstate 15, Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Kevin Honea said.

Honea said a preliminary investigation revealed that the semi may have made an unsafe lane change. The semi and the car were driving on I-15. The trooper's vehicle was pulled off on the side, half on the pavement of the shoulder, half on the dirt. Honea said it was still unclear this morning if the lane change forced the woman driver onto the shoulder and into the NHP vehicle.

The driver of the semi was thrown from the cab after the truck rolled down an embankment about 2:55 p.m. He was airlifted to University Medical Center, Honea said.

The trooper, Matt Moonin, and the woman were taken by ambulance to University Medical Center as well, Honea said. The black car driven by the woman had "significant" damage in both the front and rear of it, he said.

Highway Patrol investigators were piecing the details of the accident together Thursday afternoon and northbound traffic of Interstate 15 was limited to one lane, he said.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Moonin was treated and released from the hospital.

The identities of the other individuals was not available this morning.
