Fishing report: Full moon rising slows striper action

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE
LAKE MEAD: Fishing continues to be good throughout the lake as anglers are finding striped bass in the Las Vegas Wash area and in a variety of locations in the Overton Arm.
There was something of a bump in the road over the weekend as the action for stripers became difficult, possibly due to the full moon that caused the fish to feed in the evening. However, the fishing has improved since the weekend and boaters are having good luck.
Jigging, trolling and drifting with baits are all catching fish. Top water lures are taking stripers as well, although the boils have generally been brief.
Shore fishing continues to be slow in the Boulder Basin while some action is being found in the Overton Arm immediately south of Echo Bay Marina and at Stewart's Point.
LAKE MOHAVE: Fair action was found by the two dozen anglers who turned out for last Friday's rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach. Most of the people who were fishing managed to catch two or three trout. A striped bass that weighed about 10 pounds was seen breaking the lake's surface after the plant.
One fisherman told NDOW creel census clerks that he was catching stripers that weighed 2-3 pounds while fishing at Willow Beach at night with anchovies. Small stripers that mostly weigh less than a pound are still being caught above and below Cottonwood Cove by boaters who are fishing with anchovies and squid.
KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA: Very pleasant daytime weather and good fishing for rainbow trout and largemouth bass are being found at the area.
Ara Mazmanian of Las Vegas told NDOW that he had some luck in catching and releasing largemouth bass at Haymeadow Reservoir last week. He used spinner baits to catch the fish.
Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs were stocked with rainbow trout last week. Adams-McGill Reservoir was planted with rainbows earlier this week.
EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR: Anglers continue to have mixed results as some are having fairly good luck while others are having trouble catching any fish. Over the weekend, two boaters managed to catch limits of five rainbow trout and several anglers were observed who had three or four trout each. Other anglers told NDOW that they had no luck.
Temperatures have been very pleasant during the days, but have been plunging to the high 30s in the evenings.
ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR: The water level is low and aquatic vegetation has become a problem for anglers. Small largemouth bass and crappie are being caught.
URBAN PONDS: Ponds were stocked with channel catfish on Monday, Sept. 12. A 4-pound catfish was caught at Floyd Lamb State Park over the weekend.
