WILKES-BARRE, Pa. -- The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs plans to be the first slots parlor open for business in Pennsylvania.
Renovations have begun on the existing racetrack buildings to temporarily house 1,000 slot machines. Robert Soper, president of the facility, hopes to finish in four months and be ready to welcome gambling patrons by early spring, when the company expects to receive a license to operate slot machines.
Soper said he expects to be the only track owner to build a temporary slots parlor. Construction on a permanent gambling hall will begin when the license is approved, and is expected to take about 14 months, Soper said.
