Five local finalists for Points of Light
The Nevada Commission for National and Community Service Monday named 15 finalists, including five from Las Vegas, for their dedication and support of volunteer efforts.
The winners of the Points of Light Award will be named Oct. 20 at a $150 a plate dinner in Reno.
Individuals nominated from Las Vegas were Carole Fink who has served the Community Counseling Center for seven years; Steve Schorr, vice president of public and government affairs for Cox Communications, for his work with civic organizations and youth groups, and Joseph Vassallo, owner of Paragon Pools, for his work in behalf of Red Cross.
One of the three will be named winner at the dinner in the individual category.
Bank of America and Wells Fargo Bank, both of Las Vegas, are two of the three finalists in the corporate-business category. Helping Hands of Vegas Valley was nominated in the non-profit-service organization sector. It has delivered free volunteer services for senior citizens.
