Two cats and several pet birds were killed in a Henderson fire on Sunday night that caused approximately $80,000 worth of damage to a house and left it uninhabitable, according to the Henderson Fire Department.
The occupants got out of the home and were not injured, firefighters said.
Four Henderson Fire Department trucks responded to the fire in the 500 block of Inness Avenue near Boulder Highway and Sunset Avenue at about 11:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to the department.
The firefighters saw smoke coming from a rear bedroom window and put out the fire in less than eight minutes, the department reported.
The home was deemed unsafe and the residents were being placed in temporary housing while their home was being repaired, the department stated.
The fire was caused by children playing with matches, the department stated. The children who allegedly started the fire live at the home that caught fire, said Doug Koopman, battalion chief for the fire department.
