Golf to benefit medical foundation

The Las Vegas Golf Classic on Monday will help raise funds for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation.

The tournament will begin with registration and a continental breakfast at 6:30 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 8 a.m. at the Siena Golf Club.

The event will include lunch, a silent and live auction and an awards ceremony.

Entry fee is $200 (includes lunch); $50 for lunch and auction seat only. To register, call (800) 582-7460.

Town hall meeting planned in NLV

North Las Vegas Mayor Michael Montandon will host a neighborhood town hall meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at North Las Vegas City Hall, Council Chambers, 2200 Civic Center Drive.

The meeting will include brief update presentations and displays regarding the North Fifth Street Transportation Corridor Project, the Craig Ranch Regional Park, the Comprehensive Plan Update, and other community issues.

The public is encouraged to attend. Light refreshments will be available. Call 633-1007.

Family Health Fair planned at library

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will hold the Family Health and Safety Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Enterprise Library, 25 E. Shelbourne Ave.

A variety of community-based groups will be offering their services, including Nevada Child Seekers who will be offering free fingerprinting. Clinic on Wheels will be offering free immunizations to children and parents must bring their children's shot records in order to take advantage of the service.

Free medical screenings for adults will also be available.

Program to help homeless youths

Southern Hills Hospital will present Southwest Fest, a community gathering benefiting the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25 at the Grand Canyon Parkway Mall at the Las Vegas Beltway and Flamingo Road.

The event will feature musical performances, over 300 vendor booths and family activities such as a fishing pond, pony ride and painting contests. Southern Hills will be responsible for on-site medical assistance and first aid.

Admission is $15 per day; $25 for both days. All donations will go directly to the charity. For more information about Southwest Fest, visit www.lvsouthwestfest.com.

UMC offers class on babies' health

The Family Resource Center at University Medical Center is offering the free class "Ask a Pediatrician" from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 at the Family Resource Center, 1120 Shadow Lane.

A pediatric specialist will be available to answer attendees' questions about their baby's health and how to select a pediatrician.

Kids to Kids annual gala on tap

Kids to Kids, a nonprofit early childhood literacy project that is sponsored by Spread the Word Nevada, will present its third annual storybook gala, "A Centennial Celebration of Southern Nevada's Education Legacy," from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Venetian.

The event will honor the community leaders who have helped shape the minds of Southern Nevada's children.

The event will include a silent auction, dinner and entertainment. Admission is $125. For more details, call 564-7809.

Henderson braces for Super Run

Early registration and the kick-off to Henderson's Super Run Classic Car Show will begin Thursday. The Super Run itself will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sept. 23 through Sept. 25 on Water Street in downtown Henderson.

The event will feature classic cars on display along Main Street Plaza, "Showbiz Kidz" on stage performing songs from the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's and much more.
