Center’s demolition delayed

The demolition of the old Mirabelli Community Center has been delayed over contractual issues between the general contractor and a demolition crew.
Mark Makinson of Jaynes Corp., the general contractor, said today his company is seeking a new demolition firm and expects to begin work in about a week.
The dispute was over "a time frame" issue, Makinson said, noting that the unnamed subcontractor could not get to the job at the 41-year-old Las Vegas-owned building at 6200 Elton Ave., as quickly as Jaynes wanted.
"The delay will not affect the overall completion of the project," Makinson said.
A new Center is under construction adjacent to the original and is expected to open in January. The new center will be larger, at 31,500 square feet, and cost approximately $6.7 million.
