Private nursing schools in Southern Nevada are one step closer to attracting students.
The Nevada State Board of Nursing on Wednesday granted Apollo College, based in Phoenix, and American Scientific Institute, based in Los Angeles, the board's approval to continue developing their nursing degree programs.
Apollo plans to offer a bachelor's degree in nursing, while American Scientific seeks a licensed-practical nurse program, which would enable those graduates to work under the supervision of a registered nurse.
Apollo is building a campus in Henderson at the intersection of St. Rose Parkway and Eastern Avenue, while American Scientific will be located at 4300 E. Sunset Road.
American Scientific was told it would have to appear before the board with a complete application and answers to board questions once the site visit is completed.
Both schools will require a site visit to verify that they have the equipment and resources needed to teach before they can advertise their nursing programs or recruit students to them.
