Death of Red Sox fan results in no charges
No criminal charges will be brought against the officers involved in the fatal shooting of a college student at a raucous celebration by Red Sox fans last fall, prosecutors said Monday.
"There is no evidence that any officer on Lansdowne Street acted with any intent to commit a crime," Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said at a news conference.
Victoria Snelgrove, a 21-year-old Emerson College student, was shot in the eye socket with a pepper-spray pellet outside Fenway Park on Oct. 21. Officers were trying to calm the crowd that had filled the streets following Boston's victory over the New York Yankees to win the American League pennant.
NHL signs with XM Satellite Radio
The NHL announced a 10-year, $100 million deal with XM Satellite Radio that begins this season and will make XM the league's exclusive satellite radio broadcast partner beginning with the 2007-2008 season.
XM will broadcast more than 1,000 games a season -- beginning with the Oct. 5 opening this year -- as well as the All-Star game, the Stanley Cup playoffs and the finals.
Despite overwhelming support from player reps during a conference call with the executive board Monday night, Saskin decided to reopen the vote. He wants to end criticism from a small group of players who questioned the process by which Saskin was hired.

Briscoe, who suffered a concussion, two broken clavicles, a bruised lung and contusions to his arms and legs, will undergo further evaluation and treatment and may remain hospitalized for several days.
The accident occurred on the 20th lap in Turn 3 as contact with Alex Barron sent Briscoe's Target Chip Ganassi car airborne and against the retaining fence.
