Survey: Get good schools manager

The next Clark County schools superintendent should be ethical and honest.

Get a good manager.

The proposed $290,000 salary is obscene.

Offer up to $600,000 based on performance.

Hire from within the district.

Pick an executive from the private sector.

Those are just some of the suggestions made by the 2,254 respondents to an online survey asking what qualities and characteristics people want in candidates for the job of the Clark County School District's chief executive.

The bulk of the 2,254 respondents, 72 percent, identified themselves as school employees.

The Clark County School Board hired two consultants, former School District administrators Kathy Harney and Bob McCord, to oversee the search.

In addition to the survey, the results of which were presented to the School Board Thursday, Harney and McCord are conducting focus groups and interviews with various community groups and organizations.
