Letter: Property taxes should be limited

The people of Nevada are just beginning their rebellion against the use of property taxes and utility bills to pay for growth. If the political structure wants more streets, parks, schools and housing developments, let them look elsewhere for the money to feed this monster.

Contrary to your Sept. 6 editorial, the "Property Tax Restraint Initiative" by Reno Assemblywoman Sharron Angle (which mimics California's Proposition 13) does not restrict any innovative taxes. The proposal simply limits annual property taxes enough to maintain the existent government structure.

Another initiative, known as TABOR, by state Sen. Bob Beers and championed by lobbyists, proposes to tie property tax increases to a percentage of growth and population explosion. Is it any wonder the politicians favor this and are still trying to quiet Sharron?
