UNLV to host fair for seniors

UNLV's Division of Educational Outreach will present its inaugural Senior Lifelong Learning Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at UNLV's Paradise campus, 851 E. Tropicana Ave.

The Senior Lifelong Learning Fair will expand on the information sessions regularly offered through UNLV's learning in retirement programs, opening the event to other campus and community organizations. UNLV organizations scheduled to take part in the fair include Senior Theatre, Athletics, Gerontology, and Educational Outreach. For more information, call 895-3101.

Job fair planned at NLV Library

The North Las Vegas Library District will host a free job fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 17 at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive.

In addition to employers seeking applicants, the job fair will feature seminars on interviewing, resume preparation, and job searching.

Church to honor longtime pastor

The Second Baptist Church Family and Anniversary Committee invites the public to attend the 27th anniversary celebration for the church's pastor, the Rev. Willie Davis and wife, Sister Emma M. Davis, Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at 500 W. Madison Ave.

The Rev. Lacy K. Curry, pastor emeritus of Immanuel Baptist Church of Chicago, will be the guest speaker for the 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. services.

In addition, a banquet will be held Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. at the Gold Coast'se Arizona Ballroom. Tickets are available for $40.00 per person. Call the church to reserve you seat at 648-6155.

A luncheon and fashion show honoring Sister Emma M. Davis will Sept. 17 beginning at noon in the VCL Coleman Fellowship Hall, at the Second Baptist Church.

Southwest Gas gives scholarships

Southwest Gas Corp. and the Laub Foundation recently awarded scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year to sons and daughters of Southwest Gas employees.

Las Vegas residents Rebecca Briggs, Jillian Camarote, Kelsey Habura and Shawn Pugh were among seven recipients from Southwest's three-state service area to be awarded the scholarship this year. They each received a $1,500 scholarship. Scholarship renewals were also granted to 14 previous recipients.

Talk on African literacy scheduled

The Retired Public Employees of Nevada will meet at 2:30 p.m Monday in the Henderson Senior Center, at 27 E. Texas Ave., to hear Florica Hegendorn about her African literacy assignment through the World Libraries Organization.

She will speak about the culture, literacy challenges and development issues.
