Letter: Hunt has most sensible approach

Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005 | 3:02 a.m.

WEEKEND EDITION

September 3-5, 2005

Rep. Jim Gibbons and state Sen. Bob Beers are both good and loyal citizens, but as they prepare to run for governor, know that they both have a fatal flaw.

As strong conservatives, they both believe that most government spending is wasteful, and therefore tax cuts are essential. They will make this argument even though Nevada is at, or near, the bottom in spending for its children, its seniors and its people who are physically and mentally handicapped. If Republicans want a candidate who will carefully study every issue, try to provide for Nevada's needs, and yes, cut taxes if possible, then they should consider Lt. Gov. Lorraine Hunt.

Ms. Hunt has been in politics for some time and has served well in her post in Carson City. I believe she would make an admirable governor.
