Fishing report: Busy weekend awaits anglers

Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 | 9:25 a.m.

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Anglers reported that they have been catching stripers this week at a depth of 80 feet in Las Vegas Bay.

Drifting with anchovies and jigging have been the best methods for catching fish that range from just over a pound to nearly 3 pounds.

There has been some top water action for stripers in Las Vegas Bay, but the boils have been few and very short in duration. Most anglers have been having better luck by going deep for the fish.

Shore fishing has been slow in the Boulder Basin, but fair near Echo Bay in the Overton Arm.

Boaters are still catching stripers in the 2-pound range around Fish Island.

Fishing has been slow to fair on the area, but those anglers who are persistent can catch a few rainbow trout.

During the past week, anglers have had some luck for rainbow trout that are 14 to 15 inches at Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Largemouth bass are being caught in the early morning and late afternoon hours.
