Editorial: Cash is the best gift
Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 | 9:35 a.m.
The victims of Hurricane Katrina are being helped by tens of millions of dollars that are being donated by businesses, organizations and individuals from around the country. The Federal Emergency Management Agency says cash is the best gift, as it can be used by relief organizations to buy exactly what is most urgently needed.
Two of the primary relief organizations are the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. Here are their addresses:
Red Cross -- 1771 E. Flamingo Road, 206B, Las Vegas, NV 89119; or nationally, American Red Cross Disaster Response Fund, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, D.C. 20013; by phone, 1-800-HELP-NOW; or www.redcross.org.
Salvation Army -- P.O. Box 28369, Las Vegas, Nev., 89126; or nationally, P.O. Box 4857, Jackson MS 39296-4857; or online at www.salvationarmyusa.org; or by phone, 1-800-SAL-ARMY.
