Henderson girl gets national award

The U.S. Achievement Academy announced that Alyssa LoBello, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles LoBello of Henderson, has been named a national award winner in English.

Alyssa, who attends Bob Miller Middle School, was nominated for national award by Heather Ford, a teacher at the school.

The academy recognizes fewer than 10 percent of all American high school students. Alyssa, will appear in the Achievement Academy Yearbook, which is published nationally.

The academy selects USAA winners upon the recommendation of teachers, coaches, counselors, and other qualified sponsors. The criteria for selection are a student's academic performance, interest and aptitude, leadership qualities, responsibility, enthusiasm, motivation to learn and improve, citizenship, attitude and cooperative spirit, dependability, and recommendation from a teacher or director.

Junior Michael Paulson of Mesquite

was named to the Valparaiso University Dean's List this past spring. Michael is a graduate of Rider High School and is majoring in computer engineering. He is the son of Charles and Kathleen Paulson.

UNLV's Division of Educational Outreach

will present its inaugural Senior Lifelong Learning Fair from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 10 at UNLV's Paradise campus, 851 E. Tropicana Ave. The fair will expand on the information sessions regularly offered through UNLV's learning in retirement programs. Call 895-3101.
