Man shot in gated northwest Las Vegas community

Thursday, Sept. 1, 2005 | 9:51 a.m.

A mother of three allegedly shot and wounded a man in a gated community in northwest Las Vegas on Wednesday, Metro Police said.

Imelda "Aida" Emerson, in her 40s, allegedly shot and wounded Timothy Whitcomb, 48, on Wednesday about 10 a.m. at her house at 10425 Chimney Flat Court, in the Lone Mountain Heights gated community, police and the victim said.

Metro Lt. Brad Simpson, of the Family Crimes section, said Metro is still investigating the shooting and it was too early to tell whether Emerson would be charged with any crime or if it is possibly a case of self defense.

Although Metro detectives were still investigating the incident, the victim of the shooting, Whitcomb, said Emerson shot him in a quarrel.

"She was really going for the gusto," Whitcomb said from UMC Trauma center, where he is being treated for gunshot wounds to the upper back, hand and shoulder.

He said he would like to file attempted murder charges against Emerson, who is his wife's cousin.

Whitcomb, who said he is retired from the Navy and lives in an RV park near Nellis Air Force Base, said he has known Emerson for more than 20 years.
