Letter: In honor of the dishonorable
Monday, Oct. 31, 2005 | 8:59 a.m.
In these grim times at the White House what we need to cheer us up is another Medal of Honor Ceremony where President Bush honors outstanding people like George Tenet, former head of the CIA, who saw weapons of mass destruction in Iraq that were never found.
The first should go to "great work, Brownie." Talk about a no-brainer! Nothing speaks to how much Bush is on top of things than the praise he gave to hapless Michael Brown, who was quickly sacked as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency but remains on the FEMA payroll, which proves he is not another crony.
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist deserves one for financial foresight not seen since Martha Stewart. He sold a lot of stock in a company just before its value went south. No heads-up was given. Purely a serendipitous coincidence that his family controls the company.
Judith Miller gets one for impersonating a journalist. This was a close call between her and Armstrong Williams, who was paid for his covert propaganda on behalf of the No Children Left Behind Act. The Liberal Media at it again.
How about a medal for the televangelist Pat Robertson, who claims that God speaks to him. Never mind that some people in mental hospitals also claim to hear God. Recently Pat advocated the assassination of Hugo Chavez, the democratically elected head of Venezuela. Doesn't one of the Ten Commandents frown on murder? Is he talking about faith-based murder?
Finally, can you give a medal to someone who has been indicted?
