Letter: School police should oversee crossing guards

After reading the Sun's recent articles on crossing guards, I started to wonder why the local police departments are responsible for them. I have been an area resident for almost five years and have always wondered why we have a separate police department for the Clark County School District and why this function is not part of a special detail of the local police departments or only Metro Police.

But if we are going to have a special School District police department, shouldn't it be in charge of crossing guards? Or is doing work the public could see too much for this department?
