Letter: Bush’s family isn’t answering the call

Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 | 7:39 a.m.

Two thousand U.S. armed forces personnel died In Iraq since the invasion. Conservative estimates of Iraqi deaths since the invasion are between 25,000 and 30,000. Wounded armed forces personnel are at 15,220 with 7,100 too badly wounded to return to duty, and the Iraqi wounded and maimed are unknown.

These are shattered lives for the families of the dead and the wounded. Families who will never enjoy life with their sons, husbands, brothers or fathers and mothers. Families who must care for these wounded bodies and psyches.

President Bush constantly mentions that these sacrifices are for a "noble cause," but we don't see any immediate and extended members of his family answering his "clarion call" for sacrifice by enlisting in the armed forces. Recruiters are being forced to recruit kids from high schools to supplement the 150,000 brave men and women in Iraq.

With 77 percent of the public saying that the war in Iraq is not worth the costs in lives and the economy, what's next, Mr. Noble Cause?
