Getting to know: Chris Powell
Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 | 7:27 a.m.
Name: Chris Powell, Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager
Job Description: Responsible for staging the state's largest single-day sporting events every March, NASCAR Nextel Cup and Busch Series races.
What's on your bookshelf?
"Born Fighting" by James Webb. It's about how people from the South cultivated the mindset they have ... to fight for what they thought was right and that mindset, probably, is what led to the Civil War.
What's in your CD player?
I listen to country but, strangely enough, I just bought "Back in Black" by AC/DC.
What's in your DVD player?
Every World Series game played by the Boston Red Sox since 1975.
The last thing you TIVO'd:
"60 Minutes."
Richard Petty or Dale Earnhardt?
Both. I hate to be politically correct, but we've got grandstands named for both of them.
OK, then ... Richard Petty Terrace or Dale Earnhardt Terrace?
Equally great views.
Last nonhuman thing you'd grab before the hurricane hit:
My three dogs: Leo, Doobie and Fenway.
People may not know that I ... follow politics, the Boston Red Sox and the North Carolina Tar Heels with a passion.
