Flashpoint for Oct. 28, 2005

Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 | 7:26 a.m.

Timing is everything, especially in politics. So imagine how state Sen. Dina Titus felt when she discovered, one day after a poll showed her the Democratic frontrunner, a letter on the party Web site undermining her campaign4s leitmotif. It was signed by Democratic royalty -- Sen. Harry Reid and four former leaders. The letter admonished the faithful to treat Titus and Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson as "good Democrats." Problem is Titus has painted Gibson as a bad Democrat. So the party elite essentially are criticizing Titus. Are they afraid she can't win and thus trying to inoculate Gibson? Another cliche comes to mind: Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
