Letter: Can’t say what a Democrat would have done

Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 | 9:02 a.m.

I found J. L. Kane's letter in the Oct. 17 issue of the Sun very interesting. No one, including J. L. Kane, can say what a Democratic president would have done in the face of 9/11 or Hurricane Katrina.

It is probable that that president would have done something different, at any rate. And as we all do here in America, some of us would have liked it and some of us would not.

I do take exception to Kane's statement that for the liberal, the glass is always half empty, and for the conservative, it is always half full. It has been my experience in a long life that the word "always" applies to neither the conservatives nor the liberals.

Perhaps J. L. Kane should refrain from using the word "always" or "never" when speaking of Americans (or anyone else, for that matter).
