Letter: No proof of evolution or intelligent design
Friday, Oct. 21, 2005 | 8:15 a.m.
In a letter to the editor on Sunday, Robert Slaby wrote that "Only a dysfunctional mind would conclude that there is no evidence pointing to an intelligent design." Why can't people like him just state their case and not say that people who do not agree with him have a dysfunctional mind?
I understand why he believes the way he does, but why does he have to irritate people with his arrogance? He listed the order of the universe, etc., for his belief. But he left things out -- deformed babies, babies born joined at the head or chest, blind children, crippled children, storms that kill thousands of people, children with cancer, etc. I could go on and on. I don't believe a loving God would create all these things but, of course, Slaby will rationalize my answer.
I don't think there should be any debate regarding intelligent design or evolution because we do not have any proof how we got here or how it all started. Evolution, per se, should not be taught in school because we do not know how it all started or where we came from. But, we should teach about scientific discoveries.
When people ask me "Well, how did we get here?" I just say "I don't know," and I leave it that. I don't rack my brain trying to find out because I believe there is not an answer available to us.
