Flashpoint for Oct. 21, 2005

Clever meets clever. In his announcement speech Thursday that he was a Democratic candidate for governor, Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson wryly noted the similarity in names with Rep. Jim Gibbons, the GOP frontrunner in the race. He suggested that the extra B could stand for budget-busting and being beholden to special interests. That's OK. But then he called the extra B a "killer B for Nevada." Now that is a nice thrust. But the Gibbons campaign came back with a parry that suggested Gibson's "missing B has to do with parts falling off the Bombardier monorail Jim Gibson tried and failed to manage." Now that may be a stretch to come up with a B - the monorail company name - but it surely deserves kudos.
