Letter: Rainy days should be appreciated

Thursday, Oct. 20, 2005 | 8:16 a.m.

As a 45-year-old born and raised down the road in Tucson, I've experienced my share of desert floods and would like to say that Tuesday was the most beautiful day of the six months I've lived here in Las Vegas. Take a walk in the desert or mountains this weekend -- you'll smell the difference.

It may behoove a community that lives in a drought-stricken desert region to collectively appreciate the rain.

As for the problems on the streets, 2 inches of rain in one day isn't the problem -- stupid motorists are. (And based on the plethora of wrecks I see in this town every day, there's obviously no shortage of those. The rain just brings 'em out a little more.)

That's why in Arizona we have the stupid motorist law, which requires those who drive into the water and get stuck to pay for their rescue.

That said, I am very glad to be here.
