Letter: Radio programming change not cool

Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2005 | 8:15 a.m.

Let me add my voice of shock and anger to those distressed over the Beasley Broadcasting Co.'s stealth decision to change KJUL' s music programming from adult standards to country. Its board's decision has robbed a large Las Vegas area audience of a chance to listen to familiar voices and stylings from former years. Instead we get more of the same inane "music" as that which currently clogs our airways.

The reason for the change should offend everyone. The company made the switch not to serve another constituency, but simply to exploit -- and I do mean exploit -- another demographic group that will possibly make the executives at Beasley even richer! We used to need other nations to point out to us why there were "Ugly Americans." Now Beasley has made it very clear that crassness and greed are its favorite "virtues." Providing a service to the public is the furthest thing from its corporate mind.

Here in Las Vegas we already have our own coyotes. If Beasley wants to create a new population of them, let them do it somewhere else.
