Tarkanian hospitalized

Las Vegas Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian spent the weekend in the hospital after falling ill with pneumonia.

Tarkanian, 71, went to MountainView Hospital on Thursday and returned home Monday. She said she is "taking it slow," while resting at home and staying in contact with her staff. Tarkanian missed Wednesday's City Council meeting, and said she expects to return to City Hall on Monday.

Tarkanian said Wednesday that she had difficulty breathing and her voice is still weak, but she's feeling much better now.

She was the second council member to spend time in the hospital in recent weeks.

Councilman Gary Reese spent the night at Valley Hospital on Sept. 22 after his blood pressure and heart rate fell dangerously low. Reese, 64, said the episode was caused by a change to a prescription he takes for high blood pressure.

He was out of the hospital Sept. 23, a Friday, and back at City Hall the following Monday.

Reese said he's feeling fine.
