Players on three golf tours ready for Wendy’s return
Thursday, Oct. 6, 2005 | 7:14 a.m.
One of professional golf's most popular "silly season" events, the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge, will return to SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas on Nov. 15.
Stars from the PGA Tour, Champions Tour and LPGA Tour will battle for a $900,000 purse while raising money and awareness for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The event has raised more than $18 million for the charity since its inception in 1992.
Mark Calcavecchia, Kenny Perry and John Daly will represent the PGA Tour, while Hale Irwin, Jay Haas and Craig Stadler will play for the Champions Tour and Lorena Ochoa, Grace Park and Cristie Kerr will represent the LPGA.
The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge features three players from each of the three professional tours matched against each other in threesomes. Each threesome consists of one player from each tour, and the tournament format includes two separate nine-hole, stroke-play matches.
The first team is scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m., and the final group will tee off at 8:50 a.m. Tickets may be obtained in advance at area Wendy's restaurants and Lake Las Vegas Resort's information pavilion.
ABC Sports will televise delayed coverage of the event on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The 2005 Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge will mark the ninth year the made-for-television tournament has been at Lake Las Vegas Resort and the fourth time it has been played at SouthShore Golf Club.
